The man charged with murder in the 2009 car accident that killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others had been drinking for hours before taking the wheel of his parents’ minivan, a prosecutor said Tuesday in the opening day of the trial in Santa Ana, Calif.
Andrew Gallo, 23, had been convicted of DUI in 2006 but still drove after drinking tequila and beer at three bars, the prosecution alleged. Gallo’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, prosecutors said.
